Understanding Climate Change
Interdisciplinary teaching materials on climate, climate change and adaptation.
Materials for the integration of Education for Sustainable Development in schools.
Climate change was not high on the political agenda in recent years. The summer heat in 2018 and 2019 as well as the Fridays for Future movement, have changed this: climate protection is now high at the top of the political agenda. This is also necessary because greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced to zero within the next three decades. Energy supply, mobility, housing, agriculture, forestry, industry and lifestyles need to be restructured. Further efforts will still be needed – politically, socially, economically and technologically.
The interdisciplinary materials developed within the framework of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) offer a multi-faceted approach to deal with climate change and its impacts. In addition, the educational web-portal KlimafolgenOnline-Bildung.de
enables the comprehensibility of climate impacts for Germany for different scenarios down to the district level and the development of necessary adaptation measures for different areas.
